Hi Folks.

I rented How to train your Dragon DVD tonight for the family (blu-ray doesn't appear to be available at my local store) and found my older fat PS3 would not recognise the disc. The DVD comes with a second disc which also wouldn't even register with the PS3. I checked the drive with a PS3 game, a CD and another DVD and all played fine. Tried the rented discs again but no go. Luckily I still have an old Pioneer DVD player still hooked up which played the movie ok so all was not lost.

Just wondering if anyone out there has had any similar experiences with PS3 DVD playback. Have just tried both discs in my notebook drive which also failed to register either one. Perhaps this is some form of copy protection going too far?

Any comments appreciated. Cheers.

That is strange?.... Were you prompted with any kind of wrong region warnings?.. I can't imagine a copy protection stopping the PS3.....Do you have the latest firmware update?..

Well it looks like this is just a case of faulty discs. I tried both discs in my Panasonic DVD recorder which also refused to read them so I mentioned the problem to the store when returning them. They also refused to play on the store player but other discs of the same movie played fine.

This is the first problem with faulty discs I've experienced. Just seemed strange that both discs were faulty but played on my older player. Was thinking of getting rid of it but will certainly hold on to it now...
