Ive got a friend with a new comp with a Hauppauge HVR-1200 running Win7 x64.  He wants to listen to FM radio but I havent found anything that can do it.  Anyone got any suggestions?  Ive tried mediaportal and it doesnt really want to do it - I didnt notice a radio function in MCE either..  The card came with no software as such other than drivers.

The card does not seem to have an FM tuner. Old cards used to, but then would not support DVB-T. You might have to upgrade to more expensive card. Or add an old card which has an FM radio. I've got a couple of old cards somewhere, one supports FM directly and the other can get tricked into tuning FM frequencies.

It claims on their website somewhere (providing you can even find the correct one!) that it does.  If it turns out it doesnt Ive got an old PVR-150 sitting around here somewhere he can have.  I looked it up a little while ago and it appears MCE is supposed to support FM via the play music page. I'll go have a play on Monday. :)

I'm sure that's the card I have. Dual tv tuners dvb-t and has fm radio.

Works in windows media centre on windows 7 64 bit.

I believe that is a hybrid card, which means DVB-T won't work at the same time as analog/FM.
Also, it looks like the card doesn't have hardware encoders. This means you need software encoders for analog TV/FM - software that encodes the raw signal into mpeg 2. Hauppauge usually provide a package called SoftMCE for that. However, according to Hauppauge's support site (http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/support/support_all.html?prod=11) you don't need it for Windows 7. That must mean Windows 7 comes with built in encoders...

As for MediaPortal: I've seen a number of people complain that FM/analog TV doesn't work for Hauppauge cards. I'm a software developer and I'm quite familiar with the TV Server code - I've had to make several patches for analog TV, FM and DiSEqC to support my TV cards. I'd be happy to help to try and solve the problem (no guarantees). If you want my help then please post your MediaPortal logs and tell me what happens when you try to scan/view analog TV/FM channels then that would be a good start. You may want to do that on the MediaPortal forums so other people can benefit. Just start a thread there and post a link to it here...

FYI, my handle on their forums is also mm1352000.

Ended up taking my old PVR150 card and installing that for my friend.  After a little bit of mucking around I managed to get the radio stations all working :).  Even found out MCE was recieving a few days of tv guide so its all good :)
