Was looking at a pair of Jensen Bookshelf speakers today in JB's to replace my Onkyo's that came with my all in one system. I didn't manage to hear them running as there was no salesperson free to demo them for me.  Anyway what are geekzoners opinions of them? I can't find too many reviews. Forgot to write the model number down too. So comments on Jensen in general would be good. Thanks

Update: found them online, they are XR-400's

Bookshelfs normally have a resonant freq way too high so you have to high pass them to get any decent level out of them without them bottoming out - 180-240Hz is not uncommon. Hard to find that from the specs since they chart the freq response at 1 watt normally, so the speaker will not be hitting the limits on the bass.

I wouldnt put out more than $250-300 on something that small, particually without being able to listen in a proper environment. The shelves of JB Hifi is not a proper environment. I would not use them for any more than background music - even then you may need a sub to actually get the bass, and they are certainly no use as main speakers for music or even movies without being stupid with how you set the sub up, and most recievers wont let you take the crossover high enough to not be stressing the speaker.
