Just saw this remote (one of many) on trademe

For $19 delivered I'm tempted to just get one to try it. It seems like it should be a typical MCE Clone remote (from the description of what it works with). I'd be interested in using it on Win7 with MediaPortal.

I bought one a while back. Total rubbish imho. They are basically keyboard emulators rather than a proper mce remote - from memory the USB controller also didnt support other remotes. Took too much time and effort to turn it into anything reasonable - ended up chucking it and buying another - think I ended up getting a samsung from memory (it as for a friend) that was a proper mce remote. For myself I have a MS MCE USB reciever and a Logitech Harmony 885.. Much better setup :)

I bought a Microsoft MCE remote three years ago, with its keyboard companion. Can't complain.

You get what you pay for...

Thanks for the response guys. I think I'll steer clear of the trademe ones.

The Logitech Harmony 885 looks very nice but just after something quite cheap for a media PC I'm building for my parents bach.

My mate has a MCE remote with the Green Button he is thinking of parting with so hopefully can convince him.

If you're interested, I have an authentic Microsoft Xbox 360/MCE remote. I don't have a IR receiver for it though. I've had it for a few years, but beyond a very short attempt to interface it with my Hauppauge HVR-3000's IR receiver and Mediaportal, I haven't used it.

Also, I've found that the cheap remotes that come with many TV tuners often work quite well, and can be repurposed to control other devices attached to the PC as well.

The Microsoft MCE remotes are IMHO a very good piece of hardware. I've had mine for probably 4 years now and never had an issue. They are pretty scarce now but pop up on Trademe pretty regularly.

Looking on Trademe now somebody has a remote + keyboard with a reserve of $50

Purchased Hauppauge Media Centre Remote Control MCE from pbtech for $45 has the green button so hopefully will do the job
