I work in the NZ TV industry and I want to open an arena where the actual wishes of the viewing public can be fed back to the people that decide what goes on our screens and to promote more locally made television (of the right kind!).Over to you... P.S. How do you format paragraphs here? - all my text is stuck together!

What a great idea. Perhaps the site admin might create a new forum just for this topic?

All I have ever done on any browser and using either of the two input methods on GZ, is press 'Enter' as you would in say, mainstream word processor like OpenOffice or MS Word...

Can you tell us more about who you work for and what your role is? (Its okay if you cant).

I'm a Freelance TV Producer so I work for whoever will hire me! I am currently working for a respected NZ Production Company but this forum would be to help drive 'viewerpower' throughout NZ which would cover all networks and other outlets. I'd be very pleased if this could become it's own forum as it's really about content and not hardware although they do overlap from time to time.

I like some local light programs, like The Strip.

I also like 24, so much so that we bought Season 3 from Amazon since it wasn't on local TV. It looks like they are now going to screen Season 3 here, just after finishing Season 4. That will cause some storyline problems.

I enjoy watching CSI (Vegas), Cold Case. Even Dr Martin (good old British stuff).

Heres a good one, how about playing widescreen programs in widescreen. Now that they seem to be able to get things on tv reasonably soon after they go up on the torrent sites, the only thing keeping me downloading them is that the US screenings are widescreen and the NZ ones are not. Adverts dont really bother me, they are easy enough to FF thru. Saving me several lots of 350 meg per week would be good.

A plea for widescreen! Well I can only say that I support you as does most of the industry. The reason we don't see widescreen is because TVNZ don't want to transmit in widescreen, not because these programmes aren't available in 16:9.

All I can suggest is that you write to TVNZ & get as many people as you know to do the same. we are so far behind the rest of the world here (again!) that it is just not funny. In the industry we will continue to push at every opportunity too.

Mmm, I agree with the less 'Reality' tv show sentiment. I do have a soft spot for quality, soft spoken British dramas (Midsomer Murders is a fave), and also things like Rick Stein (sp?) - why oh why was this cancelled mid season and relaced with that other rubbish? Also, a few more less main stream films would be great (and YES for 16:9!!). Can wait for the terrestrial digital TV stuff to crank up.

When you say you want to broad cast in 16:9, do you mean letterboxed 16:9?

It is impossible to do true 16:9 (ie like a dvd) without coverting the country to digital TV.
As old free to air analog transmissions only work in 4:3.

Though Sky Digital, Saturn Digital, and FTA Satalite would be easy to convert to 4:3.

So if TVNZ where to do it, they would broadcast satalite in 16:9 (which allows 4:3 TV owners to choose pan and scan or letterbox), but keep analog in a 4:3 pan and scan.

To tell the truth I can't see any point in changeing to widescreen at the moment. The majority of TV's in NZ are still 4:3 and letterboxing US content would piss off thousands of TV watchers who don't want big fat black bars (me included as I have only a small TV) wasting their screen space.

The ideal time to change would be when the analog TV network is shut down in 10 years time or so (if it ever is).

Woops, had two tabs open in Firefox both with reply forms for different threads. Must of forgot to change tabs.

Fixed it now. (Damn it is hard to tell the differece between tabs of the same page.)
