Hi everyone.

So I built a new comp and having issues with video playback. Some videos are worse than others some standard def some hd.

This is the problem. Most noticeable on panning scenes there is video stutter only slight but noticeable. This only seems to happen on my second monitor if I play video on main it's fine. Does it in all media players vlc, mp, mp classic, QuickTime.

Have updated all drivers to latest.

Any other thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

Spec:

P55-ud3 mobi

I5 750 CPU

4gb ram

Sapphire hd 5450 1gb graphics card

Main monitor: acer @ 1430x960 connected by dvi

Second monitor: LG TV 42" @ 1080p connected by hdmi

{MOD EDIT : SP : Moved to HTPC forum}

your card is probably struggling to support 2 high def outputs

What is the native refresh rate of the tv (second monitor) and what is the display output refresh rate set for that monitor? I doubt this would cause classic stutter, but worth a look.

Does the problem occur at a lower resolution for the same monitor? If so, that would mostly eliminate card power as a problem.

Are you using the built in Windows 7 support for multiple monitors? Or using ATI Eyefinity to create one single large desktop across both of your monitors?

Give it a go without Eyefinity if that is what you are using : )

Hi guys sorry about the late follow up. Heres my results.
If i disable the monitor plugged in with dvi the playback seems fine on the hdmi through TV.
If re enable it first monitor it immediately becomes choppy again.
checked the screws on my motherboard to ensure it was grounded correctly ( as read it could be a power problem)

@gzt
Unfortunately i couldn't test the TV with DVI as i dont have a plug to convert.
Refresh rate for TV support upto 200hz and its set at 60hz seems to be the only one i can select.
Not using it with eyefinity
@bountypure
From what i have read around the net no one else with this card is having problems like this. It even looks like cards much older than this should be able to handle this sort of task (part of what makes this whole thing so frustrating )

anyways im up for any other ideas. pretty much will take any advice at the moment. tried everything else it seems. Might be time to give up and trash this gpu. Thanks again for help

What is the exact model of your TV? Does it have a motion interpolation feature you can turn off?

Its a LG 42 model# lg 42LD650
I have already tried turning off all motion plus stuff and making sure the TV is running with out any extra functions. I've also tried on another samsung lcd tv and does the same on that one too.

If it really is a card processing power issue, it would be interesting to know if reducing the refresh rate on your main monitor frees up enough processing to give a good experience on the second.

That may or may not work, but in any case my guess is the problem is some kind of complex card timing issue rather than a simple lack of power, but this is only a guess.

The EnTech PowerStrip utility gives you fine control to compensate for this kind of thing and I think allows creation of different profiles to make switching simple. I am not familiar with its operation, but some careful reading of the tv manual, and some very fine adjustments and testing of refresh rates might give the desired result.

This is the kind of problem that home theatre enthusiasts often have to solve, and it might benefit from being in the home theatre forum. I'm sure freitasm or one of the mods will be happy to move it for that purpose.

Your power supply is powerful enough and meets the requirements of your graphics card and another components right?

Although if you don't have the correct wattage your computer should just reset when it tried to pull too much power.

I have a 550 Watt power supply running two HDD + Two Optical Drives seems to me this should be well enough. I also checked to make sure the mobo was grounded correctly. Im thinking it maybe a faulty card?
@gzt. If someone shifts this to the HTPC that would be great.

dothack, i see the same thing, but only on second extended desktop, i have tried various nvidia and ati cards as a test and even changed cpu/mobo/ram

i dont think you are going to be able to solve it via a hardware or available driver change, it seems to be to do with the OS itself

Also, if it starts been jerky, if you drag it back to main monitor then back again it solves it for a while.

i gave up wasting time trying to fix this to be honest, there are various threads you can google about the problem, some talk about vsync issues but they didnt work for me either

Can't remember exactly, but wasn't there a limitation within certain versions of Windows or DirectX (?) that only permitted the monitor designated as primary to have hardware video acceleration? Don't know if this is the same situation as you are having, but sometime in the past  (Windows XP?) I distinctly remember that if I played video on the secondary monitor it would jerk and pan scenes were crap, but if played on the primary everything worked perfectly.
