Just got a cable and connect from my PC to my TV (to the PC port) but the TV turns off when I select PC??  Is there something I have to do with the PC for the signal to be recognized?

Select a display resolution and refresh rate that the TV supports.

what colour cable? Is it connected to the blue port on the laptop...aka VGA port?
or to the HDMI or DVI port?

Try going into graphics properties(control panel, display or right click desktop Graphics Properties/Properties) and turn on the extended display

need more info though, Windows XP? 7? TV Type(Samsung LCD from the sounds of it?)

Yeah, more information is needed. I am lucky as my tv supports PC so it just becomes a bigger monitor. I use Windows XP SP3 and use a normal VGA cable running from the back of the TV to the PC.
