Mine does, it is a Pioneer Home Theatre. My Ipod Classic when connected brings up a menu on the TV so I can play music.

BUT, If I got  an Ipod Touch will that do the same, or is the music menu different and may not be recognised?

Cheers
Tony

+1. It's a VSX-920, and I use an "old" ipod touch. It works, but I discovered some quirks last night. You can plug it in, and use the remote control to pause/play, skip tracks etc. But only on the ipod/music part. I was trying to play a radio app (TuneIn), but the remote controls (e.g. pause/play) don't work for other apps. I had to switch the receiver to ipod control to get it to work, but it meant the remote control would only handle volume.

It's also a little dicey with video playback. It seems to work most of the time, but one day it stopped working and I had to update the Touch to iOS4.3 to get it to work again. Go figure.

Tks all

Mine is a VSX 918V

All I used was the ipod Classic, which had a bland but functional audio menu for playing, etc. I didnt consider using it to play video, or apps if I get a Touch

The full story is that I have an iPhone4 and Ipod Classic in the Red Zone, ChCh. When and what condition I get them back is unclear. Im just looking at future options, in getting a Touch if I have to replace the Classic

If I used the iPhone4 for audio playback, how does that affect battery life, given that its in standby for 3G as well?

Unfortunately it won't play video on the 918, only when connected to a VSX920 via the special USB + composite to iPod cable...
Are you connecting via a USB cable on the 918? If so, in theory, it should be charging your Classic - ditto for an iPod Touch / iPhone 4.
