Howdy,

Next week I am returning to live in NZ after 4 years in the UK and one of the first things I want to do is buy a DVD recorder.
However as I'm bringing back a fair few Zone 2 DVD's I want to make sure I get a region-free / multi-zone machine.

Are there certain models that are always sold as region-free / multi-zone in NZ ?
Otherwise, how would I know ?

Obviously from the UK I can only look at what is on NZ websites at this stage, which has limitations.

E.g. I'm quite interested in the Sony DRHX910 with its 250 Gb hard drive.
However at Noel Leeming, only the DRHX710 model (160 Gb) has "multi zone DVD" in the description.
As they are the same price at the moment ($899), clearly the 910 is the better deal, but not if it isn't multi-zone.

Any comments much appreciated.

Regards,
CM

My MultiZone DVD player is a PS2 with a Modchip in it. Great for any zone DVD and playing backups of my original games.

Your best bet however is the 'net! Just find the models you're interested in and then seach for Multizone
Sadly now with all the spam out there it can take a while to find out info, but I've done it for a few different people now with different DVD players.

I don't think they're allowed to be sold with multizone turned on, but the sales staff almost always know how to do it. Check before any purchase with them and you should be ok.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!

DVD zoning is a joke :(

The concept should be scrapped.

Try it in the store Smile I know my Sony DVD player was Multizone when I brought it.

Failing that, here is some info.

Most DVD players sold in NZ are now either multizoned or set for Zone 0. I've read some reports however of some DVD recorders setting Zone 4 on blank discs which could be a problem if you want to send stuff overseas.
