So I did some searching on the forum - although I didn't go too far back as I didn't know if I would then be reading about older models/etc and might be led astray.

So long story short - we need to acquire a new screen. We will use it for blueray movies, PS3 and watching a bit of Freeview TV (although mostly another screen will be used for watching normal TV).

Historically I would normally had been looking at Samsung LCD's - just because I have my head in the sand and have never really considered anything else (ie plasma etc). But after reading the threads here I am thinking an ST30 Panasonic Plasma or a 46" LED Samsung

Spend level is around the 2k mark (so 46-50"???) -less ideally, but there abouts.

I know I need to go in and start looking at some - as the eyes will show me the way - but there are just sooooo many to look at...what are peoples recommendations? Help steer me in the right direction please!

Muchas Gracias!

Do you have a home theatre system? If not, the sound delivered by the Samsung LED could be sub-par for you as the speakers are miniscule. The Panasonic's sound will be better, but heck, nothing like a home theatre setup.

Remember to listen to both TV's in store if you don't use a home theatre 100% of the time.

Yup - have a home theatre setup, so no dramas there :)

A 55" Samsung LCD works great for me. I returned a Samsung plasma, I didn't like the buzzing or the weird looking motion.

The Panasonic will smoke the Samsung in every area except for the bezels aesthetic appeal... or in other words, for 2011, it appears that Samsung have chosen form over function. LED's still struggle when it comes to consistent black level performance, and most noticeably, the torch-lighting on the new Samsung's is quite bad. Take a BluRay disc into a store, get them to put an ST30 and a Samsung of a similar size next to each other - then compare them. Have a play with the remotes / picture settings and make your call.

Okay - well considering the GT30 now....they look a lot nicer than the ST models....is there anything I should specifically be concerned/aware of or are these a pretty decent solid unit?

Solid units to be fair - I've got one on my wishlist... but upgrading from my 46V20 is going to be a little hard to get past the other half...
