Hey Guys,

I've done a review of the new TBS 6984 Quad Tuner DVB-S/S2 card if anyone is interested. It's a pretty nice card.

Cheers,

Nice review, thanks.
Any word on how it performs under Win7 MediaCenter?

I've only tested the best Tongue out But it should work perfectly.  It uses a BDA driver so it's ideal for Win7MCE really.

Hey - nice review. I saw one of these on a website somewhere and was quite tempted actually. I lost interest when I heard that DTT was just around the corner, but good to know they are tried and tested anway.

That said, with more and more becoming avaliable on DVB-S/S2, and being on different transponders, it is quite likely that you might need more than two tuners.

Also, looking around your blog site, I quite liked the look of your "geek cabinet", especially the RG6 patch panel. I can see a need for one in my house with the addition another dish and LNB's.

I currently have all my RG6 cables coming down in the lounge into a Clipsal 6-way gang plate with F-type snap in connectors. I then just use short fly leads into the back of the HTPC. Have 4 in total:

Dual LNB for Optus D1
Single LNB for Optus D2
Single C-Band LNB for Intelsat 5

The other 2 are RJ-45 snap in's which just go up to my router in the ceiling.

The only thing I have to say about Win7MCE is that it only supports 4 tuners. Installing this card might max you out you you might not be able to do DTT. That said there are utilities like "Tuner Salad" that increase the number of tuners, however I've not had any experience with this.

Just saying!

Win7 Media Centre allows a max of 4 tuners of each type so you can have 4x DVB-T & 4x DVB-S tuners if you want.

Just received mine and looking to install today. Just wondering with the power cable provided, do you need to connect all 3 to the power supply?

The other day, out of the blue, TBS emailed me about this card. I don't even remember subscribing. It's the first spam email I'm actually glad I got!

I want one of these so bad. Time to start saving I think.

I see that the TBS online store, http://www.buydvb.net/  has a very poor trustworthy rating on the Web of Trust and that my Vipre Antivirus flags it is an unsafe site. Presumably, this is because people have been ripped off.

Is there another way to buy TBS cards other than through their website that has a good track record?

Really? I had no issues ordering from their website and paid through paypal. Ordered it on Sunday night and it came (rural) yesterday through DHL. They updated me on Monday that it have shipped and gave me the tracking number. They even listed the item as a 'gift' with $30 value on the packing slip should customs check for gst. Overall a very good experience!

I always thought Paypal was pretty good at keeping an eye on businesses that use their service e.g. if you start ripping people off they stop you from using their service. I would suggest that if they offer Paypal they can't be too dodgy.

I ordered the twin tuner version a few weeks back, delivery via singapore mail.... Arrived last week.  No issues with the service, again all neatly wrapped up and with $30 gift written on the package even though it was less than the normal GST intervention value...  I'd order again from them!
