Does anyone know of a program that can be used inside media centre to edit out the commercials of a recording using only the remote? For ease of use.

Or alternatively a way to automaticaly cut out the ads, I've tried MCE buddy but it doesn't seem to work.

i use the skip forward button when watching :)

tweaking the settings so that it skips forward 30 seconds at a time and skips back 15 seconds seems to work well.

The trick of hitting the number 6 (or whatever) on the remote and then skip to skip 6 X 30 sec is brilliant.

I am sure there are more out there (I know there where a couple of years ago) but all I can find now is mcebuddy and DVRMSToolbox.

I'd love to skip commercials too.

On my old Sony HDD recorder, it would "bookmark" when a show resumes from commercials, so you could skip to the next bookmark by pressing a button on the remote. It worked 9 out of 10 times, and is really the missing feature since moving to Media Center.

Apparently with ComSkip or DVRMSToolbox (I get confused) you can do the same, but most of the configurations are geared around creating a new movie file which has commercials removed altogether.
While many people have had success with this, purging commercials makes me nervous because if even a nanosecond of shortland street was edited out, I'd be sleeping outside.

All I'm after is a special skip button, in case it wasn't a commercial after all I can skip back and all's good.

I have our skip aheadinterval set at 3 mins - perfect for all except late night stuff.
That way you just need to hit the skip button on the remote once and you can resume watching :)

Rollux: I have our skip aheadinterval set at 3 mins - perfect for all except late night stuff.
That way you just need to hit the skip button on the remote once and you can resume watching :)

I prefer using the number and the skip. It is normally 7 for prime time. 6 for normal but sometimes they only need 5 or at the other end 8. I use 6 I the first ad break and then I know what I need for the next ones.

Prefer watching after MCEBuddy has removed all the commercials even more. With comskip and some tweaking I have got it all but perfect. Maybe jumps back in late 1 in 100 commercials

Doesn't pressing 7 (and then skip) change the channel?

Simple answers - yes and no.
MCEBuddy converts the file to another type (I use h.264 as it's smaller) and removes the ads from the file. I also have it set to delete the original recording as well, but you can keep it if you want

It cuts the ads from the beginning of the break and cust back in when the banner appears in the program. takes some fiddling to get it near perfect tho. (it does this automatically while transcoding the file type)
But if you're that worried about your TV watching and the possibility of missing 10secs then it's prob not for you.

When you watch the converted recording you can tell where the ads were removed, but you just watch it normally. No button presses or the likes. However, transcoding is a time intensive task. I have it done during the night and morning when the PC is not used for anything else. And we never watch TV live or near live, so it has a chance to transcode before we atch it anyway.

Only if you take to long to hit the skip button

I have had issues in our bedroom using the xbox as a extender because the layout of the remote we have in there has the number and skip buttons a long way apart and in the dark it has taken me too long to get between them so it then stops playback and switches to the channel. Once you have done it a couple of time though you just are move careful to hit the skip button in time.
It has never been an issue in the lounge though.

comskip/show analyser is what MCEBuddy uses for it's ad detection too.
