Hi There,

I have Sky working nicely on my HTPC using an Omnikey 3121 USB card reader. I've set up the same system for a relative, but he tells me that Sky Installers are no longer suppliing the NZ45 series smartcards. He got this information by calling Sky. I assume that was Sky making a smokescreen just to put him off the idea of using an HTPC to view Sky.

Can anybody confirm whether the NZ45 series smartcards are still being supplied by Sky installers?

People have reported lately (months) that they get the other card unless they get an HD subscription in other words also get MySky. That means paying $600 (or monthly fee which works out expensive) in which case you probably would not spend money on an HTPC as well. It is unfortunate, and I guess people will retaliate with card sharing (illegal, not for discussion, and I certainly do not do it).

I don't really see why Sky has a problem with it, other than they lose out on a few dollars extra income per month for a very small subset of their customers. Most of their customers wouldn't bother with using a PC for Sky and for those few that do, Sky risk losing their custom by not being reasonable. Once the signal get's into your home you should be able to put it on whatever hardware you like.

Agree, the subscription gives you the right to view the signal at one premises so there should be no restriction on what you use for the actual viewing as long as it does not impose support calls.
