Pulling the cat-6 to the garage tomorrow so I can watch the sky properly and not over a shoddy RF modulator.

Anyway, Im going to want to split it to several TVs in the house within a couple of years, but as that would all be over cat-6 I would end up with a splitter and then many of those converters to a pair of cat-6 with a resulting mess of wires, DC adapters and more things to fall out.

So, Is there a one box solution? Better would be if it was a matrix switch as well, but thats probably going to blow the budget. Otherwise I will just stick to the cheap gear and find some really really short HDMI cables to keep the mess under control.

If you want cheap, pull 2x cat6 cables through, and one more for IR?

If you want tidy, and all in one (HDMI Baluns + IR + Lan +splitter +matrix), then search Atlona gear.

One supplier is in Wellington.

+1 for Atlona gear. Thanks to jjnz1, who recommened me the Atlona gear for one of our projects at work requiring 4 TV's to show the same content from a PC over a distance of 80m from the PC which has an HDMI output on the GFX. Company name in Wellington is called WiredNZ. Speak to Bruce McKay or Penvel Raju there. Both are very helpful and great to deal with.

The gear is on the expensive side but it works a treat.

I bought just last week from WiredNZ the following gear.

^ This is the main HDMI hub which connects to the PC via HDMI.

^ 4 of these that connect the HDMI hub and TV together.

^ 1 of thse because 1 of the TV was 80m from the HDMI hub where as other 3 were within 61M range of the HDMI hub and AT-HDRS reciever.

The HDMI hub alone is $800. Reciever is $250 and 80M extender kit is $900. All excl GST.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Hmm, Thats quite an outlay. Think I will just get the cheap dual cat6 extenders for now and see what else comes up by the time I remodel downstairs and will be worrynig about installing more tv's.

The other option I was thinking of was just converting the HDMI to component, as the baluns for that are dirt cheap in comparison. Would lose pixel accuracy but as the TV in the garage is a 768 line piece of junk at the moment not a big deal and would be a massive step up in quality from RF anyway.

In either case, a fun afternoon of digging awaits me tomorrow. Gotta go deep as I am putting a new power conduit in as well so goodbye stupid 20amp breaker because the cheapskates did it in small cable too ;)

Think I will pick up one of these http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=5704&seq=1&for... and some of the cheap cat-6 adapters and see how it all goes. 2 cables vs the 1 for the altona gear is not a big deal.
