Hi all,

Time has come to get with the hdmi

I have a pioneer Pdp-434pg 43 in plasma, yamaha Rx-v630 receiver, Philips DVD-963sa sacd/DVD player all matched up with B&w dm603s2 front speakers and matching rear/center speakers with velodyne 12" thumper. It all sounds awesome but no hdmi goodness!

So I have just invested in a panasonic DMP-BDT310 blue ray player and panasonic TH-P55GT30Z 55" 3D Plasma TV.

That replaces the pioneer and the Philips player. Next thing to replace is the yamaha amp with something that matches closely to the screen and blue ray.

Can anyone recommend anything that not only powers the B&w speakers, but has awesome hd sound?

There are so many out there of all brands and I just cannot seem to find perfect amp/receiver!

Can anyone recommend any mid level receiver's?

Cheers!

(I will be selling the tv, amp and DVD player soon if anyone is interested)

Hi dude!

Most say B&W speakers were destined to be married with an Onkyo amp, and I have to agree.

I own a set of B&W 602S3's and an Onkyo 604 amp and it sounds awesome. The HDMI picture is also very good.
Although my amp only does HDMI passthrough, I have installed many other newer Onkyo Amps capable of HDMI upscale etc. They are also brilliant!

I would recommend to stay away from the top model Onkyo amps such as the TX NR series models, simply because they seem to get more complicated the higher the price. (unless you like complication of course)

But a standard TX 600 series amp is easy, has 6 HDMI inputs (TXSR608), good pictures, and great sounds. The TXSR608 model also has 3D. You should pick up one of these for under $800 (The NR609 model is $1100)

Happy shopping!

Awesome amp the 609. Just did plenty of reading and I think it will complement the existing gear quite well! Where is the cheapest place to grab one ya reckon?

Those B&w speakers are the beez knees eh!

Hell yeah!, If I had a spare $10k for a system, I would buy still them!

Not sure, just ring around the normal places, Harvey normans, Lvmartins, JBhifi etc. Tell tem you want a 609 and dont want to pay more  than $1000 maybe? JBhifi have it for $1177 I think.

If they wont go that low, ask to speak to someone who can authorise it. They can always go low!

Good luck.

To my knowledge, pretty much the only big box retailer that sells Onkyo now are JB Hifi?
B&W and Onkyo aren't designed to go together at all, it's just that the B&W importer used to also import Onkyo amps a while back - hence people decided that the combo 'worked'.
I'd ask to have a 'play' with all receivers in your price range, use the remote, navigate the GUI and then, with a CD or DVD in hand, have a listen.

Well, spent the day farting around the stores and I ended up opting for the Yamaha RX-A710 home theatre receiver.
