Hello.

I have been looking a the 50PV250 (50" Plasma), 50PZS570 (50" 3D Plasma), and the 55LV3730 (55" 50hz LED).

All are Full HD and reasonably priced (i.e. <$2000). We watch TV, Blu-Rays and play Xbox360. There is a big window to the side and we have downlights.

Any thoughts on these TVs, or better options? 46" is ok. Thanks in advance.

The big plasmas you've listed are effectively mirrors... so may not work well in your room unless you only watch at night or with the curtains closed.
The LED will feature a matte finished (IPS) panel, so light conditions won't really hurt your viewing experience. However, a 50Hz, entry level LED may well offer a poor quality viewing experience when it comes to motion / black levels / even lighting. You'll want to take a look at it in a store, especially on something that features a lot of panning shots / fast motion. If you're happy with the picture, then, hey, go for it.

The problem with these 100hz ones is that they suffer from the soap opera effect , where the picture can look like it was shot on a home video camera. Many people turn it off due to this. Unless you are watching fast action sports with lots of contrast, It don't think you really need it. TV or films are usually shot at 25-30FPS, and a 50hz tv will show 50 frames per second, and a motionflow tv is showing it at 100 frames per second, so it has to create a lot of extra frames.

The thing is...
100Hz TV's give you the option of enhancing the motion, or leaving it at 50Hz.
So if motion related issues bug you, you can't do anything about it. I guess a 100Hz TV will typically have a better processor on-board too, meaning better performance in other areas?
Personally, I still believe plasmas offer the most natural motion between the two options, I just don't think LG's versions will work particularly well in this case - due to the light in the room.

Thanks guys. It's a shame about the reflectiveness of these plasmas, because the 50PV250 actually looked quite nice in the store. I noticed the some of the Samsung LEDs are somewhat reflective also.
