Hi guys. I have a friend who is from France and who misses French radio stations. I want to give her a wifi radio that will stream Internet radio stations, but when I check sites like JB Wifi I can only seem to find very expensive ones (500 dollars and up). Yell

Does anyone know where I can find a relatively cheap wifi radio device in NZ?

If not, I am thinking of ordering an Alurateks Wifi Internet Radio from eBay.

Thanks for any guidance Smile

We listen to internet radio all the time - awesome. Instead of a dedicated device, we use a kitchen radio with an AUX in, Itunes on the PC, wireless router, an IPod and an Apple Airport. Probably cheaper to buy your dedicated radio (!!!), but you or your friend might have alot of the kit already, and if you haven;'t treat yourself!

Itunes has the radio functionality, or get an app for the IPod. Select from Itunes your airport as the speaker (instead of the PC speakers) then link the Airport (via audio out 3.5mm stereo) to whatever your AUX input is (in our case the kitchen radio, could equally be your lounge stereo etc). Best part is the Ipod has a Remote app that controls all the functionality on iTunes. Conversly, the Ipod can send its output direct to the Airport instead of its headphones. Expensive but you get internet radio, podcasts, or all your music collection on the go around the house. Very handy for us! Good luck

These are getting a bit expensive these days but the Logitech Squeezebox Boom is an awesome piece of kit:

It does everything you want and more...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

another way to go is bluetooth a2dp speakers (like creative d100, d200 | logitech boom box ) + a bluetooth source which might be anything from a cheap phone to an android tablet, or a device you already have.

already talking better sound than that clock radio thing. : )

i read a review for that aluratech thing on cnet it said you are limited to the preset stations and cannot add to the list.

if you are going to get something all in one there are better things to look at for only a few more dollars:

wellygary: Ipod touch or cheap android phone running tunein,

We have an iPod touch sitting in a logitech dock/speaker combo, streaming radio with Tunein and music/video from the server with StreamToMe.

Job done.

Hey guys, just an update. In the end, because it was a gift for someone who really just wanted to hear some French radio (so the inability to add new stations isn't a biggie), I went for the Aluratek:
http://reviews.cnet.com/radios/aluratek-internet-radio-alarm/4505-7875_7-32976058.html

It's a nice simple machine, works like a normal radio, and can also get local FM stations. It was easy to set up too.

I will probably get an Internet radio for myself at some stage, but as I am keen to be able to choose extra stations, I will probably follow up on the other suggestions you guys made.

You might still be able to buy Samsung Galaxy Player Wifi 5.0 from trademe for $200-250. They were giving them away with TVs so the ones you buy are basically brand new and you also get a tablet as well.

Here is one for $50 reserve
