Greetings. I realized I probably have never introduced myself even though I've been visiting this forum almost daily for the last year or so.
Been in NZ for one year and some months, will be two years in July. Love life here and have settled in quite well. Living in Auckland at the moment, but have had a chance to see most of the north island, and making plans to starting checking out the south island soon.
I'm a geek. I love computers and all things related. While my regular job is not in IT or anything computer related, I spend most of my free time fiddling on computers and on the web. I build websites as a hobbyist/freelancer and more recently as part of my somewhat new small company. I also know a bit of a few programming languages :), and I'm always looking to learn new ones in my ever shrinking free time. Surprisingly, I'm not a huge gadget freak, but I do own an iPhone 3G, an iPod touch, and a classic iPod. Hoping to get my hands on a Kindle sometime soon.
On the computer front, I own an old-school 12" MacBook, a Lenovo Thinkpad T500 running Ubuntu, and an old recycled HP Compaq running Debian, with Virtual Box for experimenting with other OSs (the ones I have installed atm are WinXP for those occasional Windows jobs, and Backtrack Linux because I want to learn to play with it). I have three monitors mounted on articulating arms on my desk which gives me good screen real estate so I can multitask efficiently :) My goal eventually is to get a more powerful PC to dual boot some linux distro and Windows, and a more powerful modern Macbook, preferably a 15". I like to find old computers, clean them up, fix them up, install the basics on them, usually Linux and a free word processor, and donate them to classrooms in impoverished communities.
If my partner would let me, I would probably own more computers... :)
I would love to meet and network with other geeks and tech-heads like myself. I'm always up to learn new stuff and sharing what I know, and to fiddling with stuff.
Nice to meet you all :)
