Gary's the name, I am 39 y/o married with two awesome kids.
I currently work at the Timaru District Council (TDC) and am the "senior" Sys Admin/Network Engineer
I say 'Senior' as I have been here Nye-on 10 years and I say "/Network Engineer" because my official title is Sys Admin, but I do ALL the infrastructure work i.e. Networking/Switching/Routing/Security/Firewalls/remote access/WANs etc etc as well.
I did the two year Diploma in Computer Networking at CPIT (started in 2001) so i am Cisco Networking Academy Trained/brainwashed lol.
I used to be an auto electrician before that.
At the TDC we have 230+ bums on seats, 130+ thin-clients, 80+ PCs, 30+ servers (P&V), 13 remote sites.
We have some nice Cisco kit: ASA firewalls, Cisco 5508 WiFi Controller with 1142 APs, 6509 in the Core, 3750 stacks in the closets, 10gig fibre backbones, Full Cisco VoIP with CCM etc etc.
On the MS side of things we have a Hyper-V platform, use 2k8 Terminal Server (130+ thin clients) DPM and TMG 2010.
Run Fujitsu SANs and servers + various others.
So yea, that’s my story, fair to say Cisco/Networking is my main skill-set.
Happy to join the wider IT community

Regards,
Gary
