Hi everyone. My name is Jose and I'm from Venezuela. I'm considering to move to NZ to become a Network Administrator.

There are some types of scholarships available to study english in NZ. My idea is to get into one of those and find my way around once i arrive to the country. Perhaps working temporarily as kiwifruit picker.

It would be great to get an CCNA or a Network + Certification over there or perhaps getting a degree at the New Zealand School of Education in Auckland.

Anyway, what do you think? Good idea or bad idea?

Depends on what your wanting to achieve. A lot of people will get certed and have to start in a basic role and work their way up not necessarily just get thrown in the deep end as an admin. But up to you.

Thanks for your comment. Can anyone else  give me some more insights?

And judging by your original post, your English seems to be better than most people around here! ;)

I think you'll find a CCNA will be very expensive, doubly so if you are a foreign student.
Be ware that working on a student visa is only part time so you'll be limited to non-IT jobs.

If you're studying the CCNA stuff by yourself and just doing the papers then its not as expensive obviously...

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

Thanks for yours replies.

Now,  do you think that  Network Administration is more easy than being a DBA?

I'd call that fairly subjective..

I'd say try your hand at both and see what you prefer doing, and what your better at doing.
