I've read this forum passively for at least ten years I think, although I can't recall when geekzone started. I've learned a great deal from others posts and discussions and do hope that I can give something back finally. It will be nice to interact with others also. As for my username I feel a bit bold selecting it as my HAM skills/knowledge are very basic indeed. It's something to aspire to I suppose.

Basics about me:

First computer used - ZX Spectrum 48K.

Most used platform - IBM PC compatibles.

Favourite OS - Pretty neutral these days, although I use various flavors of Linux on a day to day basis for my personal needs.

Hobbies/Interests - Reading,Philosophy,Electronics,Science,Psychology,Thinking outside of the box,etc... (Not really into gaming anymore.)

Biological stats - Male, late thirties. Too much grey hair for my age.

Location - Auckland currently.

I have no idea what else to put for my introduction so that's it for now. Thanks for reading.

Welcome to GZ. Ahhh the Spectrum.... my first computing introduction was on one of these. I must have done something right as a techy teacher pulled me and a friend out of class and had us sit down in front of one of these and enter 2 pages of BASIC program out of a Bits & Bytes (?) magazine to get a simple game going. Can't even remember what the game was, but I was hooked.

I couldn't afford those magazines back then plus I was probably unaware they existed as I was less then ten years old and living in Tauranga, which no doubt at the time would have provided few specialist periodicals in the newsagent stores. I used to type in basic programs straight out of the printed manual that came with the spectrum, which was surprisingly good if a little lacking on more technical information.

When I was in highschool I purchased a voice synthesis addon board which one of my electronics club teachers ( A physics teacher) had apparently developed himself from scratch. You could see on the PCB how the circuit track lines were clearly 'hand drawn' before the etching stage, and along with the board was about 200 A4 pages or so of assembler code in scratchy hard to read handwriting. I never ended up getting around to trying it out though.
