Hello everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Love the forum and all it's diverse information and looking forward to participating. I'm an IT Manager by trade so i'm a geek at heart, I've managed to tick a few things of my bucket list by building a bar and arcade machine although the rest is on hold as baby entered my life 3 weeks ago and everything has turned to custard! Currently looking at effective ways of cord cutting from Sky in a wife friendly manner but as i'm out in the sticks my max internet speed is 5Mbps :(. I'm also a bit of a petrol head but that particular interest appears also to be on hold for the next 18 years while I fund my new little poo machine..

Thanks

Well congratulations @Apotheosis! You can now start tinkering with geek projects related to baby monitors!

I think at 5Mbps you will find SD streaming video is handled easily but HD will hit some buffering. So cutting Sky is doable within those constraints.

This is true, I've got the baby monitoring sorted, so I can keep an eye on her while i'm at work, hopefully I won't need this for long though as i'm thinking by the time she's 2 I can have her working in the mines for her dinner...

SD is not acceptable :). at present i am acquiring a lot of content on a download overnight, watch later policy :). I have just purchased an HDHomerun which i am hoping to use to push OTA content into my plex server. Although it's not working very well due to signal issues, i'm hoping to try and sort this over the weekend though. Never simple!

Welcome & congratulations to the addition of your family. You are correct about the next 18 years.

Netflix supports downloading / pre-caching, so that might be one way to worry less about your connection speed.

Welcome.. Still some time away for you yet, but at least Foxton has made it into the list of places getting UFB.

When I were a toddler we lived in Palmy then Levin and used to go to the beach at Foxton.

Foxton's the Riviera of the Manawatu, you know!

thanks for the welcomes and nice comments about Foxton. It's actually underrated as a town I feel as it's so close to the beach and far enough away from the hills to get good weather, unfortunately it isn't very well catered for as far as services go but you can't have everything i'm told!).  Coming from East London it's a definite step up! I have myself 3 acres to rattle around on so i can feel like a real man...
