Hi guys, just introducing myself.

From Dunedin; been living in the states for the last three years but moving back home in December.

Have joined this forum so I can find out what to expect 'tech wise' in New Zealand when I move back there.

I Have a few questions mainly about HTPC's in NZ; here in the US it is pretty simple; hook up the cable box(s) to the tuner card(s)
run the media center tv setup, automatically download the guide data and enjoy.

From what I can gather in NZ it is a little more difficult and more expensive to do this; am I correct???

Have a great night.

Welcome to Geekzone - yeah unfortunately our EPG data is considered intellectual property and is jealously guarded by the networks - making any EPG data acquisition a website scraping affair which can break any time - although Freeview (Free to air DVB-S and DVB-T) has vastly improved this situation for HTPC Geeks as the EPG is transmitted free.

No such luck with SKY TV (our only nationwide pay TV provider).

Anyway - might be best to take any more HTPC conversations to the appropriate forum, so I will stop here!

Welcome to Geekzone!

I just arrived back from Christchurch where we had our Pizza evening last night. We had lots of people from all over - Auckland, Wellington... And Dunedin too. Perhaps the next one you will be there?
