Hi there. I'm alikat from the Chatroom. I've been here a while, but more likely slow in getting into the forums and introducing myself. I came to geekzone looking for an answer and I've ended up hanging around. I saw the chatroom as a chance to relive my glory days on IRC when the internet was young, and I was younger.

I grew up on computers like most of my generation, charting my teenage years through the x86 processors. At one stage I was a regular on BBS Auckland circuit, under user names Ali, Sian D and Cimorene. Even co-owned a BBS at one stage for a year or so.

That said, I've done a few IT papers while still at school, and then went off on a tangent getting involved in graphic RIP machines, digital prepress and also high volume digital printing. Thats all in the past now too! I can remember postscript as if it were yesterday.

Anyway, I am kicking around, hoping to get involved. I'm no consultant or as brainy as some here, but I can fix just about any MS Office problem that can arise :)

Careful who you call old there - I'm under 30 and feeling old because I had to explain to some university students what a BBS was... not sure if any are still around!

Did you used to run a BBS in Auckland or elsewhere during the 1995-1997 period?

Heh - I guess "old" is somewhat of a relative term when talking technology. I'm under 30 myself :)

Around that time period (possibly earlier?) I was running a BBS called Phoenix out of Hastings.

The BBS I ran was an Auckland one, Mental Abyss - with my brother, his friend and his friends sister :) Family affair!! We did dealings in the school ground to fund the telephone bill - 4kg bags of reject lollies from Allens were a good money spinner!!
