Greetings,

Have just arrived back from an extended stay overseas (again).

Need to get my head around the current state of IT in New Zealand:

- choices for mobile phone services
- choices for landline provider
- broadband choices
(and if bb is (still) so slow here, how do ppl acquire their copies of Linux distros and other large downloads?)
- web hosting
- PC suppliers/manufacturers
- the better/more attentive employment agents
- renting a place (once I've worked out where to live)

Not much to ask. Not much to (re-)learn...

Regards,
=dn

Howdy :)

L/line and Broadband, Id recommend Orcon, especially if you end up in a place near one of the Orcon enabled exchanges.

Im approx 2km from the exchange on Orcon+ and get 10mbps down and 1mbps up, so its def not slow as such long as the links in between are talking nice :)

For webhosting, depends what you want - basic site with PHP and a SQL database, then few choices, I was with Iserve (recently bought by Orcon) but the 20mb space was limiting me. Looked at usixng HostGator.com until a friend offered me free hosting.

www.pricespy.co.nz is a good start for PC suppliers

Employment agencies... hmm.. personally, Ive never found a good job through them. Not worth the hassle.

Im sure others will fill in the gaps Ive left :)
