Hi all,
I work for Cynotech Satellite in Newmarket, Auckland. I work with clients requiring satellite phones, for use in area's where there is no cell phone coverage or land lines, using Iridium and Inmarsat satphones for voice and data. Interests include technology (obviously), seakayaking, hang gliding and kite surfing.

Hi Nate,
Yes we hire satphones from $25 a day, US$2.50 a minute flat rate from anywhere to any land line or cell phone. Cheers, Andrew

One last question Andrew, can you send SMS from the phone? If so, cost to do this?

Yes, you can send SMS. If renting, its US$1 each 160 character SMS, if you own the phone (Iridium this is, its US$0.50 cents). Other satphones also do SMS and have similar rates.

Also, one of the best kept secrets, anyone can send free messages to Iridium satphones via the internet from: http://messaging.iridium.com/
