Hey All,

Have been lurking Geekzone for a while and have finally gotten around to registering.
I work in IT and most of my hobbies are computer related - though I'm looking to get into something completely unrelated now that it's my day job.

Any suggestions?

Cycling, Around wellington its an extreme sport :) Swimming - Not so extreme - the risks of getting killed by a stagecoach bus are much reduced in the pool (though not beyond the realms of possibility)

I also collect 3rd Reich and DDR stamps (random huh...)

I have also convinced a collegue that I am trying to build my own Atomic Bomb (when asked why, I replied that it would be fun to bring out at parties, and that the nuclear club have the best free food)

What random stuff interests you?

What's that? To move to a house with a letterbox further away from the front door ? LOL, or to lose weight by walking there twice a day, once to collect normal mail and the other to collect junk mail ;)

I too like Michaelmurfy's idea. I tried that not so long ago all went well at the time too and am looking forward to doing it again soon (real soon if i had my way).

If computers are your work thing and most your old hobbies are that way too branch out into something new like a xbox 360 this way the withdrawal syptoms will be kept to a minimum. Honestly my interests are very similar very much pc related.

I now play Halo Reach for about 15 - 20 hours per week (please note although some may say that's excessive I suffer from insomnia so a lot of that time is in the wee hours of the morning hehe.

I tried organising work drinks on a semi regular basis at a pub around the corner from our office in Lower Hutt after a while like before the numbers attending dwindled off and we haven't had one now for 2 + months. It would seem that bored government office workers whom a lot of drink heavily do not necessarily mean that out of office work drinks will work out either.

In saying that every event we have at the workplace is generally a huge success with copious amounts of alcohol being consumed. :-)

I think convincing co-workers of your DIY WMD's is a bit more random a hobby!
I'm always pretty good at spending hours reading about obscure historical stuff online but I guess my main goal is to get away from the screen a bit more - so cycling might be an idea...

Thanks for the warm welcome guys

Funny thing is, the co worker believed me :)
But come on, the nuclear club - you just know they have free food :)

Cycling is a great hobby - and i agree it is nice to have some non-screen time. Also enjoy photography which also gets you out and about

Hey, if you combine that with the previous suggestion of hanging out with pretty girls you could have a business concept (or a criminal record) he he

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
