Based on the initial reviews it seems it (the -80 or -78 model?) has similar compute to a M2 pro ~960pts vs 1006pts at similar power consumption 55W for CB2024.

Being similar to a M2 Pro isn't a bad place to be for a new entrant into the laptop market, but it's not amazing.

Naithin:

Still just hanging out for that Recall function though...

I am curious about who actually wants Recall as currently defined. Just like I wonder who are the people who click "Yes I consent to all the cookies you can possibly install on my browser" buttons.

Just think of the storage it would use up - no one ever asked for it. Its why Linux is my main and Windows is just because its part of my job

First day of use of the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x was largely as expected -- it's no game changer with none of the major AI features yet available. CoPilot is present in the more useful app-based form as opposed to the widget locked to the side of the screen in the preview build otherwise.

--snip--

Still just hanging out for that Recall function though... And it'll be a bit of a wait yet it seems, before it is even put back into the Windows Insider builds.

I am genuinely pretty surprised this is the killer function you'd buy a new $3000 notebook for if I am honest.

It wasn't the driver for the purchase, I should probably clarify.

My previous laptop was still holding on, but was starting to show its age as it passed its third year in service. The only concession I made toward this was holding on with it since earlier in the year when I decided I would be upgrading, to now to grab one of these as opposed to what was already in market.

Provided it can actually help me locate where a particular conversation, request or piece of information originally surfaced more easily, that alone is a killer app for me. Between dozens of chats each day (Across individuals, groups, and meetings) and however many more emails, powerpoints, docs -- so good. (Or at least, I hope.)

I could almost happily block it from web/browser tracking entirely as that isn't where I need nor want it to play, and it also helps that the more sensitive business apps can also be blocked from Recall in one fell swoop with denying it access to anything opened by way of Citrix.

Having said all that, it definitely did give me some pause when it was revealed that actually, encryption wasn't in place initially after all. So I'll be curious what the commentary on how good (or not) that encryption is when it gets released back to the Insider channels and people get to poke at it a little more.

I had a look at the Lenovo at Noel Leeming today. I am quite intrigued though the sales person had absolutely no idea about it.  It looks and feels very much like my current Lenovo, but despite them both having OLED's the new one looks quite nice.

What little I could play with it, running ARM apps were indeed extremely snappy. They didn't have anything else available to try in terms of x86 apps.

This being Microsoft's second go at ARM would give me pause at that price.

They are only one of lots of manufacturers producing units with qualcomm chips. I wouldn't buy a surface full stop, but some of the other units seem pretty awesome so long as you run native Arm apps.

I think the SKU are full keyboards, they don't sell the keys individually.
