I just bought one of these and going through the updates to setup . Seem to have an issue Activating windows 8 and connecting to Microsoft account anyone else?

Ok I activated it on the phone all 48 digits!!

Wa going to try the update to windows 8 .1 while I have a pretty much vanilla install but checked out this thread and looks like it may be a bit of a blood bath so might give it a miss

Well that took me awhile to figure out and google searches
Problem = I couldnt log into my Microsoft account as the login for windows 8
Solution = The clocks on the windows 8 were set incorrectly and timezones incorrect that solved the problem

I'm running the 8.1 preview on mine. The only issue that I have is that the battery level indicator is missing. Easy fix is to reset the AC adapter via the system tab in the control panel.

Overall I am happier with it since I put 8.1 on it. It's not a wonderful machine though, I much prefer my Galaxy Tab 10.1.

ok after a fair bit of fluufing around 8.1 is running and so far very smooth 
definitely like the ability to size down tiles

Updated to 8.1 on mine, been having driver issues even after installing the official driver package, battery isn't detected, cameras are sometimes detected, sometimes not, wireless stops working every now and then and requires a restart. The funny thing is, these driver issues seem to happen only after temporary fixing the battery problem, by scanning for hardware changes in device manager.
I'd advise anyone using this tablet against installing 8.1 until it's officially released and the drivers are updated.

I've had mine for about 3 months now, $619 from Harvey Normal (but a duff, they replaced it quickly) and I think it is simply great. Bought a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and 64 gig of SD storage, and loaded it up with all the stuff I use at work, which is pretty extensive and includes some heavy stuff like SigmaPlot. Everything is fantastic -- maybe a little slow, but I can live with that when I am offsite. Outlook to Exchange works a dream, Office 10 is not really setup well for touch, but is very usable (I bought some cheap styli), lots of cloud storage (MS and ASUS), and the apps are sufficient for me. The screen is fine. C drive about 45 gb, d drive about 50, full. I just think this is a great little machine, and most useful to simulate a work-environment desktop. I'd recommend it hugely. But---now I start looking enviously at the T100... But maybe first, 8.1 on the current machine and see how it goes.

Does anyone out there know how to make the SD drive look like a hard drive to the system, rather than an external drive?

Great fun was had updating the ME400c to Win 10 because of the apparent lack of an appropriate intel video driver, but in the end, ignoring the warnings got the job done via an ISO.

Now, more fun updating it to Win 10 TH_2 -- sticks at 40%, twice now.  Reinstalled 8.1 fine both times, but after the second try it's not offering me the update anymore (I guess it learned...).  I think I have to wait 30 days until it's offered again.  Some indications from MS that the problem occurs if you have an SD drive installed; I would have tried removing mine, but since I can't now update, I can't. 

I find this interesting as it is seems to be exactly the same problem that occurred with trying to update the Intel Compute Stick to Win 10 (which ended in my getting a replacement, and not trying again) -- seems like in both cases, the first part of the install uses the SD card for storage, but the subsequent parts can't read the card.  But can, I think, read a USB drive (according to MS again).  Not much help with this machine as it has only one usb/charging port, and the machine needs to be on charge during the installation.

Anyone else having such problems?  Can someone else try the no-SD card update?

Breaking news:  having found this

If you uninstalled the November update from your PC, you won't be able to install it again from Windows Update. Instead, you'll need to go to the Microsoft software download website and select Upgrade now to upgrade your PC to Windows 10 Version 1511, which includes the November update.

I followed it AND removed the SD card, and the update went totally smoothly.  So, one or both is the answer -- I'd do both. 

And make sure it is completely charged before you do so -- my biggest moan about the 400c is that the battery discharges when the machine is on but idle, and the charger is connected (even to a better charger that can provide more amps).  Bad engineering.
