Hey guys,

Since I've been on the road a lot more, I'm needing to upgrade from a smartphone data entry system to a proper notebook/ultrabook that I can mount in the car properly.  Ultrabooks with detachable touch screen (essentially converting them in to a tablet) look like a cool way to get it from the car and in to the customer's home without any major hassle, but would they be compatible with Windows 7?

Since all the hybrid devices now come with Windows 8, are the tablet/touch screen options only fully functional with Windows 8?  Would I be risking it by putting Windows 7 on them?  Has anyone ever tried it?

Does anyone else use a specific in car computing system that I may not have considered yet?  I'm sort of just building this up as I go and working it out on the fly.

Cheers,
David

Curious to know why you'd load Windows 7 onto a Windows 8 Touch machine if you want to use touch. Windows 8 is a far superior OS for touch

I didn't know there was much difference between them as I'm not familiar with touch devices apart from my Windows Phone.  I figured it was more down to the hardware that controlled how well a touch device operated.  I don't like Windows 8 at all.  I'm far more comfortable with Windows 7.

Windows 8 is Windows 7 with enhancements and a split personality start screen. If I was buying a Windows 8 tablet and didn't want the "metro" interface I would just install Start8 or a similar app and stick to the desktop.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
