I have just bought 4gb Crucial laptop DDR3 1600Mhz ram for an old HP Probook 4520.
I tried installing and, then it won't start just clicking all the time, I have 4gb ram already and was trying to up it to 8gb.
Even tried the Crucial 4gb on its own and just get the clicking and no boot up!
Tried the Crucial 4gb into my intel nuc and works OK there.
Is there something needs changing in the bios, I know its an old laptop but its still working.

Laptops can sometimes be a bit fussy with RAM.

Did you check the compatibility here https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/advisor ?

That may still be in the region of fuss-pot RAM aged machines. Does the stick you have have backward compatibility to 10600 (vs 12800) and do CL11? (Although a crucial was one of the compatible ones)

Only other thing I can think of is if it is trying to run Dual-channel and they are mis-matched spec per above.

A long shot but maybe try and upgrade bios first ?

The 1600MHz ones might be balking!

Yeah sounds like it's not compatible with the BIOS, update it and try or swap out ot 1333Mhz and try that, failing that get HP RAM.
