My dad is approaching 80 and we're encouraging him to write down all his interesting stories as a veterinarian for 40 years. At this stage he only has an old iPad 2 that admirably still functions but is very slow.

Basically he will only ever write, sketch, check websites and email. I thought maybe a surface go with keyboard and pen would be good but maybe the screen is a bit small. It's a shame the keyboard and pens are so expensive for surface pro because pbtech have the entry level surface pro 7 for $1100

For something around $1500 or less what should I consider?

Also, it makes no sense buying them Ms office when there must be an app that more suited to being simple text and drawings and keeping it simple. Any thoughts on what application would be good to show him how to use?
