I was using an ASUS G751J that was purchased in 2014. It has served me well but has failed to boot yesterday. The most likely cause is the SSD drive has finally give up. Also there has been some minor keyboard issue as well but not a too big a deal.

Should I be fixing it or just get a new one? I am not playing very demanding games nowadays so I am still OK with the laptop. If I fix it I would hope it will last another 3-5 years.

If I get a new one, is there any 17" budget gaming laptop out there (budget $2000-$2500)? I saw a Dell G7 17 but not much else. Compare to 2014 it seems most system has gone down to 15". I use that mainly at home so don't mind the heavier unit but still want the option to take it elsewhere if I want to.

Keen to hear everyone's advice. Thanks.

Have a look on there and use the filters

There were a couple under $2500 in the 17in frames

Lot more options if you go for 15in though

I have just bought myself a Dell G7 7700 17" laptop, mainly for the 17" screen and the Nvidia 2060 GPU - I need an Nvidia GPU for MythTV. It was on sale at 30% off when I bought it, which made it quite attractive. I am not sure when the sale prices end - it might be over now. But I do not do gaming, and from the reviews of this unit would not recommend it for that purpose. It apparently has bad cooling and thermally throttles badly during gaming. It does have three USB 3 (5 Gbit/s) ports and one thunderbolt/USB-C 3.1 gen 2 (10 Gbit/s) port, which suited me as I do have need for four USB ports at times. I am still getting things copied over from my 8 year old MSI GT70 laptop (its hinges died, but it is still working electronically). I have no rush doing that as I will only need it to take away for the summer holidays.

SSD replacement is usually very quick and easy. Replacement SSD's dont cost much. If it works otherwise, I'd do that.
