I am looking for recommendations on a laptop for my 13 yr old. She is really interested in art, so a convertible touch screen would be ideal. We have been looking at the surface pro and HP Envy X360.

Ideally I am looking around $900-$1700, and something that will last her right through school.

Surface Pro X. Can run traditional Windows apps as well as arm apps specially with new Win 11 build. Fast and battery life is great and great for drawing.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Would the standard pro be suitable also, although I do like the idea of a laptop as they seem more sturdier than an attached keyboard.

For my 13 YO - who wanted a convertible for art and reading manga - I went with an Asus Vivobook Flip 14 with a Ryzen 5 4500U. Cost about $1200 and came with a stylus (not all do; be especially wary of PB Tech’s cut and paste descriptions.) Six months in he’s still really happy with it.

I’ve had a Lenovo flex for a couple of years and am very pleased with it, although I hardly ever use its tablet features. But it’s light, fast and has a nice screen and good battery life
I’ll point out that the first one in the links above is not a full HD screen, which completely rules it out in my opinion
