It's been happening for quite a while now (I think it's only been happening since Firefox 3 came out) - where after a while browsing the web (maybe an hour) all webpages would stop loading.. It doesn't come up with an error, just keeps trying to load the page (it doesn't happen on any webpage in particular). So I would open Internet Explorer and sometimes pages would load normally for another few minutes, other times it won't load anything at all. To fix this, I would have to restart. Checking my E-Mail's using Windows Live Mail and using Windows Live Messenger still work fine.

[I'll check the make/model of my laptop soon] - I have AVAST! and ZoneAlarm Pro on it, both going at the same time (but I think I have the ZoneAlarm antivirus disabled ]as AVAST! told me that both antivirus's working would cause conflicts - so i disabled ZoneAlarm antivirus [but not firewall] as i knew AVAST! is better in that department])

After a bit of research I found that there's quite alot of issues in having ZoneAlarm and Avast working together? I don't really want to change as I've paid for a year's subscription of ZoneAlarm. I'll work on it today with AVAST! disabled and see if it changes anything.

The reason why I have both going is that AVAST! has a constant webscanner and tells me if I'm downloading a file that has a virus - and I can abort the download immediately. ZoneAlarm because it's the best firewall (as i'm a bit of a security-conscious person).

Quick questions:
- Would I be 'safe' with just AVAST! and disable ZoneAlarm. Or just have ZoneAlarm going and leave AVAST! until I need to do a virus scan?
- Would it have anything to do with hardware (i.e. wireless network adapters - I've updated the drivers for them via. Device Manager)

I'll have a go today with AVAST! disabled [I won't download any files] and see how it goes.

Long post I know (sorry!)

That will be the problem, terrible idea and will undoubtably cause problems.  I would turn that "feature" off.

Ragnor: [double post, why can't I delete this one?]

Because you are a n00b Tongue out  And I've deleted that other post of yours.

Back on topic, uninstall ZoneAlarm.  Do a tracert to your favourite sites to make sure you are able to reach them.  I know at one stage when I was having similar issues with Firefox, Chrome would still keep working - turned out I had a virus which AVG (I now use Avast) wasn't detecting.

I understand your concerns and I hate to be the guy to tell you this (I know I would hate it if I was on the receiving end), so sorry in advance, but ZoneAlarm isn't the best firewall. It hasn't been the best since 2006. It was overtaken by Jetico, then Comodo and finally, Online Armor. There's a huge difference between the top 3 and ZoneAlarm.

Always keep an eye on matousec's website for the latest firewall challenge results.

Try FF and IE without loading any addons and see if the issue still exists?

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

I would only bother installing an obtrusive firewall (like Zone Alarm) for users that are really clueless, even then if you sat down and watched them you would see they probably just end up hitting accept for every firewall popup because they don't understand the concept behind a firewall and "the internet doesn't work unless I hit accept".
