Hey guys,
Im looking around for a laptop and was looking through the Dell website.
I've got my eyes on a Studio XPS 16 Laptop and have a question about the
processor.

It is listed as having a Intel Core i7-720QM Processor, which with a little bit of research
on google and the price tag, seems to tell me is the latest and quickest out there.

The question i have is, the speed is listed as 1.60GHz which seems a little low, but then it says
"turbo up to 2.8GHz". What does this mean? Is it going to run at 1.60GHz or 2.8GHz?
Because i want a fairly quick processor to handle a lot of multi-tasking.

Also, just a side questiion, does anyone know whether a Dell 1520 Wireless N-card is better
comparable to a Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card?
I dont really know what an N-card is or what the difference is.. I've got normal Telecom broadband
wireless connection at home, so im hoping the N-card will work on this, as that is what is supplied
with the laptop im looking at.

Cheers

Hi there,

The speed for the Core i7 has been said to be 50% faster than the fastest Core 2 Duo processor. The "1.60GHz" reference can be a bit confusing. Just remember there are four cores all together, each running on at least 1.60GHz.

It is fast!

Get the wireless N to future proof it. N provides faster wireless speeds than the old G - but your modem must support N in the first place.

Thanks for the reply heavenly, really appreciate it.

I just had a look of the Telecom website because i have the Thomson TG585 that they supply and it has no reference to N, it only says "Wireless Simultaneous operation of IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g"
Does that mean the laptop wont work via wireless with the N card installed?

Yeah im still a bit confused as to the description regarding the processor, i've emailed Dell about it so hopefully i'll get a reply that makes it crystal for me :)

A 802.11n adapter on a laptop is in addition to 802.11 a/b/g... Your laptop will work just fine with older wireless access points.
