I bought a Lenovo T400 notebook from their NZ website (http://www.lenovo.com/nz/en/index.html)  in April 2009 , for around $2200 .

While I could have bought a higher spec machine for less from other manufacturers, Lenovo have a reputation for quality.

The machine came with a switchable graphics adaptor , where you could switch between 'on-board' graphics (low performance, low power draw), or radeon mobility gfx (high perf, high power draw).

The "ATI" adaptor has failed, and I can only use the 'on-board' graphics.

I'm thinking of making a claim from lenovo under the NZ consumer guarantees act, not sure if I have a chance as I bought this online and not sure if they are liable under our laws.

Anyone had experience with lenovo claims such as this?

I'd suggest before you go all CGA on their ass, have you tried contacting the Lenovo representative/distributors in New Zealand. Politely, in writing.
The unit is only a few months outside warranty, often just mentioning the CGA will be enough to get the vendor to help out with a repair. Do go to lengths to establish a friendly dialog with them, it may be much easier than going to court!

I'm sure if you bought it through legitimate channels in NZ, then they must comply with NZ law (CGA applies only to consumer, not business of course).

Take it up with the vendor first, they may be willing to help you out.

Cheers,
Joseph

<edit>
Sorry I didn't actually address your question, I've had no experience with Lenovo, but have had some with the CGA.

I phoned their 0800 # this morning, and answered by their Australian office. He said that I was not covered by warranty, and I explained the CGA to him. He was vaguely aware of the NZ CGA but that did not assist.

He did not think that Lenovo have any presence in New Zealand, so I checked the invoice and it clearly states "Lenovo (Autralia & NZ) Ltd, and there is a NZ GST number and postal address.

In the end, he declined to authorise repairs, and told me to contact customer service, also based in Australia.

I think I will follow this through, it has really annoyed me. cheers
