So earlier in the year (about June) i bought a 15" Macbook Pro (specs below) and have been using it for uni stuff but towards the end of the year it got to be more of a pain lugging the MBP around than i liked.

And now that the new Macbook Airs have been released and have half decent specs i'm tempted to side-grade to the MBA and offload the MBP. Then, if i need some more grunt, i'll use the difference between the two machines to fund a renderbox/shuttle...

So what do you think i could get for the MBP? I'm assuming more than the price of a new MBA... ;)

Current MBP Specs:

MBP 15.4/2.66/CTO NZ$4811.00
2.66GHz Intel Core i7
8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display

Plus a few other bits and bobs like a nice case, remote and Mighty mouse.

Intended MBA specs:

MBA 13"
2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
256GB Flash Storage

So am i being silly? I do mostly websurfing/office work/TV watching/photo and Lightroom work on the MBP for the time being but like to use Photoshop/ArchiCAD/Artlantis renderings from time to time for uni stuff, hence the potential renderbox at a later date/new year. Although the machine i used before the MBP upgrade was only a C2D and that was fine.

Am i missing something? Anyone got a new perspective for me?

Yeah, i have an unhealthy dislike of GP Forums so won't be heading there. Will probably spend a few months saving for an Air and then just sell the Pro and see what i can get on TM.

I'm more interested in whether or not i'm heading down a road of doom with the purchase of a glorified netbook.

I'd prefer an alternative but the reality is that the MBAir is actually a half decent travellers light weight work machine. Perfect for what i need,
