Hi I am just about to buy a 15inch Macbook Pro i7 for my daughter.Around Christchurch retail you seem to have to buy at the retail price as no one seems to discount Apple products.
Apart from the price,Noel Leemings were I may end up buying one from,have said that they have no stock nationally and new stock is hard to obtain with "restrictive supply" signalling that a new model is on it's way soon.
Because we are having to paying $3800.00 for this computer,I don't want to buy a run out model and would like to get her the latest.
Has anyone heard any wispers on a new model coming out as we are willing to wait a reasonable time to purchase the latest.

Looks like the rumours point to a new model in the 1st half of the year...
That's pretty freaking vague though.
I say find a store with stock (a little uncommon on a core i7 maybe??), buy it now, then just get stuck into using it. :-)

Buy from apple.co.nz and get a "3"iPod Touch :) (Sorry it won't let me say the word Free and then ipod )

MacRumors' Buyer's Guide is usually pretty accurate. I'd wait for MBPs as they are indeed due for a slight refresh. If anything, it will make older models cheaper.

None of the retailers ever discount apple stuff to any big degree. (Biggest discount i've seen is DSE doing ~$150 off a $4000 macbook pro etc)

toshbuy.com is a good place to get Macs for a lot less. I got $400 off when I bought my MBP back in 2007.

Highly recommend using MacRumor's Buyers' Guide for references (quite accurate). Then use Apple Online Store to check refub models as they have gone through more thorough testing than the normal assembly line. You can find great price from refub models. Otherwise wait for new models to be released - and if new models are not hugely changed - then pick the last season's top crop as they'll be cheaper yet still very up to date.

Lastly, if you're by even slight chance of hopping over to Australia, grab yourself one from there instead of NZ stores, at least NZ$100 of saving in some cases.

And (debatable) an APP (Apple Protection Plan) is highly recommended.

Thanyou for all your replies.Most appreciated.I will persue the Apple shop online as I found their student prices to be cheaper and the savings will go towards their extended warranty that I think will be esential.Both my teenagers are on their second Mac and all four machines have had expensive repairs done after the 12 month gaurantee ran out.
I looked up the macrummer site,very informative.Apple are giving out an ipod with every Macbook Pro,so that is a bit of a sweetner as well!
