hi there
i have a laptop that is getting on in age now, it doesnt have windows 7 support and i found all the drivers for it a while back, except the one for the front panel audio, headphones and mic.

im wondering if anyone knows of a generic driver that will get the headphones and mic ports working again.

ps: i have checked the NEC website and driver section, i cannot see one there.
thanks very much

Perhaps a make and model number might help? Otherwise win7 is smart enough to grab the generic driver needed itself and get things sorted but this isn't always going to work on every machine remember.

Can also check manufacturers website and hopefully use windows vista drivers if available. But Win 7 Should find drivers if possible.

Try Vultr using this link and get us both some credit:

Pretty sure you don't need drivers for the headphone and microphone jacks. They should be hardwired to the sound hardware in the computer, so long as that is working.

Have you got sound at all (through the laptop's speakers)?

If not, pretty sure Windows7 will just find and install sound drivers (I have never seen it need specific drivers for audio on the fresh installs I have done - HDAudio and AC97).

If your sound isn't working, and the drivers are installed - it could be either a configuration error or a hardware fault.

ok its a NEC versa p8310

i have gone onto the NEC website and downloaded and installed the HD realtek audio driver , but the problem still persists. its definately not the port thats broken, it worked before the install of windows 7. i have used device manager and spotted the yellow warning signs, clicked update, find online etc, and it cannot find anything.

laptop speakers work fine, ill check bios to swap from or to hd audio/ ac97
