Hey guys,

I'm sick of carrying my heavy 15'' Dell to university everyday so I'm looking to get a sub $500 netbook. It will just be used for email, web surfing, and word processing.

I've narrow it down to Acer A0522 and HP mini. Both have the price of $549 at BnB but I should be able to get them to beat the price at JB(?).

I'm leaning towards HP as it's got Intel's Atom N550, which is Duo Core (better than Acer's AMD I believe, no?).

What do you think?

The AMD Fusion chip in the AO522 is very new, and I'm pretty sure it outperforms the Atom N550. It also has much better graphics. On the other hand, HP's tend to have slightly better build quality.

I saw the AO522 advertised at JB's for $472 a few days ago.

I just bought a 522, and am setting it up now. Not a bad laptop for a dual core 1Ghz. runs faster than my atom ion 1.5Ghz dual. I have it set up with 2x 24inch 1080p monitors (1xHDMI, 1xVGA) and the only thing slowing it down I can see is the HDD.

So....

I have just ordered:
1x OSZ 60GB ssd hard drive
1x 4GB DDR3 memory chip.

When it arrives on Tuesday, according to you tube etc, my Acer 522 should fly!!! Apparently boots up in 25 seconds with a SSD that does 100MB/s, so my new OSZ, which does 275MB/s, should be awesome!

I bought it from Noel Lemmings for $472.50 -they price matched JBHifi.

I also upgraded to Windows 7 professional.

Will give a detailed review next week if you like after I have had it for a few days.

Would love to see a review! Thanks in advance.

I am especially interested in the multi-tasking performance of the machine and also whether YouTube 1080p playback is possible, when connected to a larger monitor.
