I recently purchased an Asus EEE netbook. It was running fine for the first couple of days but after that it began to run extremely slowly, then it wouldn't load anything. I log in and click on something, then it freezes straight away. I'm unable to use it anymore which is very annoying considering it's almost brand new.

The RAM is 1gb and it doesn't support more.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Have you installed any software recently? Do you have anti-virus software installed?

Best way is to do a complete reformat back to factory condition if it simply freezes like that.

What OS is it running? If Windows, does it have all service packs and updates?

Have you tried using a Linux boot from the USB to see if it's still stable? If it works then you know something is wrong with either the OS or the HDD. If it freezes then it could be memory, power source.

Most laptops will have a hidden partition to restore it to factory conditions.

You should really first test using a USB-booted Linux (Ubuntu for example) to see if the laptop freezes with another OS - this would exclude OS installation and point in the hardware direction instead.

If you reformat (however you do it), remember to backup any of your stuff first, including any program installer you might need to reinstall things later.

I did pretty much the same thing freitasm said (except I used a Knoppix linux CD rather than Ubuntu) when I recently took delivery of 2 laptops and the sound didn't work on one of them.

Sound worked under Linux on one laptop and not the other, so clearly a hardware fault.

Note: if you use Knoppix go to www.knopper.net for the original.

If you don't want to burn a CD you can use a bootable USB drive.
In the past I've used the Universal-USB-Installer from pendrivelinux.com to write a CD image to USB drive.

It runs Windows 7 and an Asus operating system called Express Gate Cloud. Which is ok for basic functions like internet and documents but it doesn't run exe files.
It runs fine on the Asus OS but not Windows 7.
