I have a Toshiba Satellite A10 which I am wanting to give away to a family member. Only issue with it is that it has a noisy CPU cooler fan

I'm not sure whether I can pack this with grease; or whether I will need to replace it.

Advice please

(if I need to replace, anyone got a fan for this model - willing to buy)

Cheers

First thing I'd try is giving it a good clean.

I would expect that if you are able to pull it apart to the point of greasing it - you may be better to replace the fan. That said - I had a desktop PC with a PSU that had a fan that got really noisy. I found that every six months or so I would have to open the PSU up and give the fan motor a squirt of silicon spray to clean and lubricate the bearing and it would be quiet again.

There is an article here about oiling fans:

As nzkc said though - give it a good clean first - often the noise is actually caused by the blades getting out of balance/clogged with dust.

Fan blades are very clean. There was a clump of dust just in front of the grill; but even clearing that makes no difference

It has been suggested on another site I should try a third party fan; any idea where I can find one of these? (Good supplier)
