That is just it, it is not the 'Kiwi' thing to do, to take people to court, like they are doing, rather than sort it out face to face. So it wouldn't surprise me if the puppets strings were being pulled from the overseas owners.

I guess they are only following their own slogan "make the most of now".

Ok, here it goes. Sometime in early April 2009 I've got a tip about Vodafone noticing Telecom interference. I posted this on my Twitter 11th April and here is the sequence (click the names for the original tweets):

@freitasm (2:50 PM Apr 11th): "I heard that @telecomnz new 850MHz equipment is interfering with @vodafonenz 900MHz frequencies"

@vodafonenz (3:10 PM Apr 11th): "@freitasm not that I've heard. How could it? Like 99FM interfering with 104FM isn't it?"

@freitasm (3:51 PM Apr 11th): "@vodafonenz yes something ike that. Bad filters I hear...."

@nealrich (4:59 PM Apr 11th): "@freitasm like @vodafonenz there are a number of us who would like to know more"

@vodafonenz (5:07 PM Apr 11th): "@freitasm well I've heard nothing like that I"m afraid... who did you hear that from?"

Note this was about 20 days before the news about this action came out. Both sides denied anything about interference. Of course this doesn't prove they didn't know - and doesn't prove they did know.

But it was already a rumour back then, which means if it's really an interference, then someone else knew it was happening.

What i find interesting is that they have gone from engineers from both sides working together to resolve the issues... to serious legal action?

?Telecom?s engineers have already been working with their counterparts at Vodafone, for several weeks now, to resolve these issues and this process has been working well. We are disappointed that Vodafone has taken such extreme steps over an issue that can be resolved in a more constructive way ? and most New Zealanders will be too."

The consultation and process to resolve the interference issue must have been fine to some point where Vodafone have spat the dummy and said " stuff you telecom lot, we're going to court". It just seems so abrupt from my perspective.

Hopefully, it gets resolved asap and Vodafone can go on serving their customers as best they can, and likewise with Telecom and the launching of XT as scheduled.

yea i agree, there is no way govt would let vfone stop the launch as it would go against everything they have ever said about needing competition.

  • Chuck Norris can penetrate large concrete buildings, unlike 2100Mhz UMTS.

  • Chuck Norris has no need for cellphones. If he wants to give you a roundhouse kick, he will do it in person, but you still won't see him.

  • Chuck Norris gave a cellphone a brain tumor once.

  • If you read a text from Chuck Norris, you would die.

  • If Chuck Norris ever bought a cellphone, it would be to take an MMS of your still-beating heart after he rips it out, and to send it to you before you died.

  • If Chuck Norris was using a cellphone, no cell breathing would occur. He would have killed it first.

  • Chuck Norris doesn't pay early termination fees. He terminates you early for free.

Oh, and I wonder which other network has also been suffering interference, and noticed so before Vodafone?

I agree, the only way to really find out would be the technical findings, one thing is for sure... they are both going to be portraying themselves as the injured party!

Absolutely - when the technical findings come out, they will be grossly simplified by the media to the point of distortion and then spun three times around the block by VF and TC.

Or maybe that's just my Monday-morning cyncism talking.

As usual, I'll be turning to the old-time GZer for sane interpretation...

"A Telecom lawyer said technicians from both companies had accepted the problems could not be fixed until Vodafone rectified a situation with its head amplifiers."

Mast head amps - that makes more sense than issues at the base station equipment
