CDMA was a better technology than anything else available at the time. Granted the CDMA camp didn't have the marketing / cool devices etc but no one could have predicted which technology would win (though many claim they did now).
Matter of opinion i guess, but CDMA was always going to be hampered by the relative slow growth in North America of the mobile phones market at the time- some would say mainly due to the american pricing model (paying to recieve calls). GSM , logically being dominated by European manafactueres, were already experencing much quicker growth/penetration rates- you didn't need to be much of a soothsayer to see that GSM phones were where the rapid growth was and were going to compete to define the way people used mobile networks
yuxek: so what did your XT telecom phones say yesterday? Did your screen just say "no service"? And when the network was fixed did you have to restart your phone or did your phone just start working again?
I can't brain today. I have the dumb.

Telecom is recognising the inconvenience many of its XT customers suffered earlier this week by crediting a day?s mobile usage, as well as providing all XT customers with a free weekend of calling to catch up with friends and family in the lead-up to Christmas.
?We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to XT customers by this Monday?s prolonged outage on the network from Taupo southwards,? said Telecom CEO Paul Reynolds.
?Because XT customers from Taupo south couldn?t use their mobiles for much of Monday 14 December, we will give them a Monday back by crediting their account for all of their mobile charges on the previous Monday, 7 December.
?On top of that, all calls made by XT customers to Telecom landlines and Telecom mobiles this weekend, from midnight on Friday 18 December until midnight on Sunday 20 December, will be free of charge.
Customers do not need to contact Telecom to receive these credits. They will be applied automatically.
?Although we suffered a set-back this week, I believe XT to be the best mobile network choice for New Zealand and New Zealanders,? Dr Reynolds said.
Further details will be made available on our website, www.telecom.co.nz, overnight.
