Also these pings are heavily affected when downloading, I'm positive all traffic passes through the filters. A 50ms ping will hit 500 just downloading @ 500KB/s. I'd expect 50 to bloat to maybe 150 or even 250.. but not half a second.
Never had issues like this on go large.

This is expected behaviour imo, latency will always blow out when you saturate your connection.. typically once you are past 75% utilization of what bandwidth is available to you.

Here's an example on a 1.5Mbit line:

Have you every tried gaming in a flatting situation where half your flatmates are torrenting and downloading?

This is why there are some really awesome solutions like Tomato/DD-WRT for client side QoS in various routers that are used to solve this kind of problem.

However on Big Time you don't really know what the max bandwidth that is available to you is... and it will vary depending on time of day.

If you are only a couple of users just use a download manager and put a limit on your downloads so there is more of the "pipe" available for gaming.

You could try this, http://rs2ip.anonymailz.com/ works well with rapidshare premium since Telecom throttles downloading from rapidshare.com but no the IP.

That begs the question:

Why do people always have to break the rules when they can quite happily live within them?

Not to mention, every time they do, we all probibly get more limited.

I doubt it. Rapidshare is limited at 200kb/s no matter the time of the day. Even if more bandwidth is used it will still be 200kb/s while other people will be torrenting at full speed.

My comment got taken a bit out of context there.

I was not specifically meaning rapidshare.

In more depth, im basically trying to say if everyone on big time is using too much (ie people are getting around the rules) theyll have to slow everyone down, unless they know how to hit just the ones getting around the rules.

Arctic: What rules? Nowhere does it say you cant download as much as you possibly can on Big Time. If people find ways around the shaping, it's hardly breaking the "rules".

Apart from the first month on Big Time I havnt downloaded insane amounts (I did 700+GB the first month just because I could lol), and if Telecom offered a non shaped plan with a _reasonable_ data cap (250gb like comcast for instance) for the same price I'd happily switch. I dont know about your household, but in mine 40gb can disappear in the blink of an eye. 3 internet savvy children with a love for streaming media will do that.

Doozy, whats our chances of seeing a capped (but with a LARGE cap), non shaped plan in the near future? :-)

Well maybe not rules as such, but shaping. Some people seem to endlessly be trying to find a way to cheat the system and all it really does in the end is impose new traffic management limiting all of us even further.

Just my 2c anyway

I've read through most of this thread and see that doozy stated that Telecom is working on the traffic management for gaming. WoW and a few others are fixed by the looks of it. Any news on pogo.com? Their games are Java based and are being shaped. Between the times of 2am-9am I can play perfectly fine without being kicked from the games (stupid times to play but that's the only times I can play with friends and family overseas without being interrupted). As soon as the clock hits 9am, I get a message from pogo saying Connection to server has ended. Weird how pogo.com is being shaped and yahoo games which are also Java based, aren't. Any feedback on this would be good.
