Seems to me that they were going to get it sorted in time but then Telecom moved forward their launch date, pissing VF off.

I have been having some issues recently with my 2G phone in Central Dunedin.

Seem to have "full signal" but some calls going straight to voicemail despite this.

Vodafone forums suggested that it could be related to XT interference.

But...being in Central Dunedin am I going to be on the 2100Mhz band?

I'm confused. The phone I am using is a 1st gen iPhone, not sure which bands it can run and which it would actually use. 2G, not 3G service.

The 1st generation iPhone runs on 2G only, 900MHz in New Zealand.

Maybe XT is also interferring with Snapper! :-)

It's only interfering with Snapper in that I am spending tim on this thread - better go :)

One thing to factor in is that most ITU certified GSM equipment supports the E-GSM band which goes to to 880MHz. This overlaps the AMPS band and the 882MHz WCDMA carrier that Telecom are transmitting on.

At the end of the day the problem is a technical issue cased by running both 850 and 900 networks together - Australia is the only other country in the world doing this.

For your information, I've talked to Telecom about this topic earlier today to find out if we could have their response to the claim to post here, but it is not available for the public at the moment - so the other side of the story will be told after the court hearing tomorow 10am...

rck: Ok, I havent seen this posted here yet but I was looking at the TUANZ site and this blog post contains some of the communication between Telecom and Vodafone legal teams. It also includes the findings of the MED back in April 09...

There's nothing new in those links. The "communication between Telecom and Vodafone" you refer is actually the press release I posted in the first entry of this thread a few days ago. The blog post you refer is a link to the claims I've posted here at the same.

Interesting that the MED was mainly concerned with interference to NZ Comms (895-900 MHz in round numbers), whereas Vodafone are 5 MHz higher (900-915 in round numbers).

With respect @freitasm, if you had scrolled down beyond the first page you will see it contains email communications and the letter from the MED dated April 9 2009 to Telecom setting out their findings re interference at that date. These are documents and direct information that I have not seen presented in this thread yet.

edit: I can understand your reluctance to have links to another blog but I wanted to be clear in my post about where I found the information and simply placing the link to the document would not properly credit the source.

All is forgiven... I thought the same thing when I first opened the pdf, I guess I should have made it clear in the original posting that the new stuff was further down...
This is shaping up to be a much talked about issue. Looking forward to hearing both sides duke it out at 10am tomorrow. Its a pity Vodafone is continuing to reject offers of mediation but then we'll see who comes out in better shape at the end of all this.

What I find interesting is that while most complaints I've heard in regards to Vodafone performance is in relation to the handover from WCDMA to GSM when, I assume, the GSM signal becomes stronger than the WCDMA signal. How can Vodafone then claim that the increase in faults they are experiencing is due to interference on their GSM network?

I've just called Vfone to enquire why a 1gb dataplan I cancelled some time back was still being charged on my account, and I got the usual "System is showing an error.." comment from the customer "support" person...at least she said she' based in Auckland!!
The really interesting bit was her question when I informed her that I wanted to cancel my account as I was porting to Telecom: she asked "Why?" and I simply replied that VF's customer service wasn't acceptable, and she sounded resigned to it...as if to say "Oh no!..not another one!!"...someone whose monthly account averages $550+...
