After just over a week with no follow up, I emailed the UFF service desk last night. Got a call this arvo from a tech who asked if he could come over in 45 mins. Luckily someone is at home to open the door for him. Fingers crossed this is the last step towards my fast internet, cos the ADSl is getting reeeeeeeeeeeal slow of an evening. Plus Lightbox is on Chromecast now...
It all seems to have worked. I haven't heard a peep from Spark, but the new modem is fired up and broadcasting its wifi. I connected and got a lovely quick internet connection.
I assume that at some point I will hear from Spark and they will turn off the ADSL on my copper. In the meantime, I will get the wifi all secured and configured and plug in the stuff I want hardwired to the AP. Its times like this that I realize just how many network connected devices there are in my house.
Having not heard from Spark, I also have no idea what or when they want to deal with swapping my phone over to the fibre. That will be interesting, as the fibre installers had absolutely no interest in where my existing phone cabling is, or how any connection from the ONT to the current phones will happen. At the moment, there's an air-gap of at least 10m direct line-of-sight from the ONT to the nearest phone jack, with a concrete pad floor, and some rather tight ceiling access in the way of stringing a cable across. Still, that a hassle for another day, right now I HAVE TEH FAST INTERNETS!

You might want to give them a ring and ask about that. I was curious about what happens to our existing adsl copper connection account, and the lady at spark said it just stays on - and presumably it still racked up a monthly charge. They don't just automatically stop it when ufb kicks in it seems.
And yep, ufb is nice and fast - and the new modem is very swanky too.
