timbosan: Telecom reps - I have had a 4G SIM since last week however both times I tried to use it, It gives an error on the phone "SIM not provisioned" - how do I get this fixed?

You need to call to have the SIM turned on. Right now its just a blank SIM :P

Silly question but it's bugging me!

I have 4G up and running on my iPhone 5 now and I notice that under Settings ---> Cellular it says "enable 4G". I am sure that this used to say "Enable LTE" or am I just imagining that?

Was this something that changed with the recent carrier update?

Yep, carriers choose whether they want LTE branded as LTE or 4G. In the states, AT&T even brand HSPA+ as 4G.

And it's chosen by the network that you're connected to, not the one that you're a customer of. I was just over there and my iPhone, with Telecom SIM, was saying 4G when roaming on AT&T.

The carrier settings must be different for the iPad too, my iPhone 5s says "4G", but my iPad Air says "LTE".

4G coverage in Christchurch way to spotty. Got a great speedtest in Ferry Road. But work needed to get a decent level of signal around city. I guess its a work in progress..

Still no firmware update for HTC One. So no 4G :-(
Equates to an epic fail in my book.
And it only gets worse when Telecom send you a text saying that 4G is live and all I have to do is restart my phone. Still I shouldn't expect any better when their original setup page for getting a 4G sim had the HTC One X (not 4 g) instead of the One.
Anyone from the Telecom online team care to comment on when HTC are going to push out the Telecom approved update? And why it wasn't done a month ago?

Failed registering my xperia Z onto LTE network, always had the message saying 'network with limited service found'

Anybody having the same problem?

All settings and upgrade seem to be right.

We are still working with HTC on their OTA updates required to support the Telecom 4G network. Both we and HTC need to be assured that customer experience won't be compromised with the update, and hence our rigorous testing process (which started many many months ago).

I can assure you this is getting a lot of focus to ensure our HTC One owners will get their 4G capability enabled on their devices, as soon as possible. As soon as I have more information on an ETA this I will post here.

Doesn't sound right - can you confirm that you can register correctly when the phone is WCDMA only, and that you are running standard telecom firmware? you may need to call in to get your SIM profile checked over to make sure you've been activated correctly. If your still having issues tomorrow PM me and I'll take a look.

Thank you gajan for breaking cover and admitting that the Telecom branded One is not 4G capable at the moment.

The 'customer experience' line wears a little thin when it is trotted out time and again to explain massive delays in pushing out updated software. Especially when all you are doing is activating a piece hardware that was hobbled initially. There is no 'customer experience', beyond being able to select Auto GSM/WCDMA/LTE in the Mobile Settings menu.
Unless the 4G activation is being rolled out with the imminent release of Android 4.3 for the HTC One, that might worth the wait. I'm afraid I'm back to telling people I advise on tech matters not to buy Telecom branded HTC phones.
I would be interested to hear from anybody who is using a Telecom 4G sim in a generic rommed One and how their 'customer experience' has been affected.

However I must reiterate that I am grateful that you (gajan) have provided some information. Albeit not the news I was hoping for.

edit: Having just reread your post are you saying there is actually a problem with the One operating on your network? That would be a bit embarrassing for an award winning international handset....

Thanks, the 4g can`t register onto WCDMA either. Will pop into store tomorrow.

Absolutely correct. There is NO TECHNICAL REASON to disable this in firmware. It's done for commercial reasons, and commercial reasons only.

I've gone to a Nexus 5. Carrier devices and firmware are a joke. Even my last phone (Galaxy S3) was an un carrier branded version and it worked 100% fine on a number of networks.

@ Dingbatt -  My telecom sourced One is working just fine on Telecom 4G, albeit because i have a non carrier branded rom but be clear the problem is limited to Telecom sourced One's running Telecom branded firmware, pretty much everyone else running a One is without problem

Having run so many unbranded roms over time I just can't buy into this argument that we need carrier branding
