The way I understand it that the system the CSR's have access to for changing interleaving schedules a job to update the profile of the port at the exchange/cabinet.

It once happened to me that I requested interleaving off, the CSR made the change their system said it was changed but the profile at the port in the cabinet/exchange didn't change.

If was easy to tell from the modem admin page (as you know now).

Also why are you connected with G.DMT (from your screenshot), is your DLink an old model not capable of ADSL2+?

It is an ADSL 2+ modem. But my exchange is not capable of it yet anyway. What should it be if it was ADSL 2+ rather than just ADSL?

I set up an account on there before I'd even had DSL activated.

Just used the account number and phone number (iirc).

World net also offer a "big time" deal which actually works out $10 cheaper a month. Not sure what they are like as an isp but have been keeping an eye on them.

By far the worst ISP in the country, a quick google will turn up some horror stories.

It would say G.922.5 or maybe just ADSL2+ depending on the modem.

Anyone else having problems downloading through iTunes, the one thing i have noticed is in the evening downloading podcasts that are usually less than 20MB in size download at a mere 5-10 KB/s or as itunes puts it 50-100 Kbit/s

Yep, me too. I end up with a string of (err=3259) messages in itunes, and any podcast that doesn't support resuming is essentially impossible to download during the evening.

I've ended up setting iTunes to check for new podcasts every hour, and launching it before I go to bed. At least everything seems to be downloaded by the time I get up in the morning.

Did a quick google, seems 50/50 a lot like every other ISP if you google them. Some of the stuff I found was pretty old.. 2006/2007 ah well.

Not going to switch to them I just thought I'd mention it as a few posts back someone mentioned that not many other ISP's are offering flat rate.

I moved off big time back to the adventure plan which as I expected resolved all my issues. So big time for me is a waste of time I guess I might try it again in 6 months time or so (thats if its still around) to see if they've ironed out the kinks.

Kinks seem to be few and far between. Browsing is still good and games are touchy depending on the time. Telecom staff have been the biggest obsticle so far. But I can't blame BigTime for that.

When interleaving gets switched off, I will report back on my findings. I hope Ventrilo will be usable at least...Maybe.

If Telecom implemented streaming media cache the ability to give 100Gig a month would work, as most of the content would be delivered from this cache in NZ without the international transit costs, and delivered fast end of story.

Not true, there is simply no way to cache everything that Is streaming media, there would still be alot that isn't cached that would still be international. There is more to it than you might think

Is there anyway anyone will listen at telecom to get things that use very little bandwidth such as games prioritised higher?

I don't really care that my torrents crawl along during the day, but it sucks that I try to login to Bad Company 2 and it can't even download my stats for me to be able to play, whereas using my XT mobile tethered it takes a few seconds to login and grab my stats.

Monitoring the connection out using Big Time it seems to be going <10KBps, and I'm guessing it times out quite a fair bit. Using my mobile it goes significantly faster than that.

And while I know that it says you may notice slowdowns etc on games, a 'slowdown' doesn't translate to 'not being able to play' in my language.

As well as that, my steam downloads are going around 10KBps at the moment, and have been for the last 6 hours. Trying to download a 300mb update should never take this long, its not gaming traffic or peer to peer, so why does it seem like it is being shaped?

It seems all single threaded http downloads are brutally slow, I can usually torrent a file faster than using single thread http, which seems unusual considering its the torrents that are meant to be being shaped.

Are you guys now shaping encrypted traffic to try stop the people using tunnels to get around the shaping? I notice gmail is very slow, it was unusable when my brother was staying here last week.
